MARK ZUCKERBERG COMMENDS THE SENATE PRESIDENT ON THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Social Media giant, Facebook has commended the office of the President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki for its deployment and effective use of facebbok and other social media platforms.
The Chief Product Officer and Company Lead on Product Management and Development of Facebook, Christopher Cox, gave the commendation at an event in Lagos.
Cox was delivering a keynote address at the opening of the annual Social Media Week held at the Landmark Centre in Lagos.
According to a video posted on facebook, Mr Cox said that the utilisation of facebook by the Office of the Senate president was very commendable.
He said that the activities of the 8th Senate had been opened up through the use of social media especially with the live video streaming at plenary.
Reacting to the commendation from Facebook, the Senate Prsident’s Office expressed delight saying that the comment was a welcome endorsement.
In a statement issued in Abuja by Mr Bamikole Omishore, Special Assistant on New Media to the President of the Senate he said the commendation was an encouragement.
“This commendation reinforces one of the core mandates of the Senate President to the New Media unit, which is to bridge the gap between the Senate and Nigerians.
“The Nigerian Senate Facebook live streaming has an average view of four million unique clicks monthly for the plenary live feeds.
“We will be expanding coverage to courtesy calls, committee hearings and oversights in the next few months,” he said.
“We are encouraged to do more with this commendation and wish to kindly reiterate and assure our friends, from the online community and beyond, of the commitment of the Senate President towards ensuring that the 8th National Assembly continues to witness improved transparency and accountability on government functions and people participation,” he said.
Omishore reminded Nigerians that Saraki was very committed to social media use adding that in 2016 he had led a delegation of senators to attend the opening of the Social media week.
