Charmian Carr, the actress beloved
by worldwide fans for her role as the eldest daughter Liesl Von Trapp in
the iconic 1965 film musical "The Sound of Music," has died at the age
of 73.
Carr, according to her spokesperson Harlan Boll, died on Saturday of complications from a rare form of dementia in Los Angeles.
In her early 20s, Carr found fame in the Academy Award-winning film "The Sound of Music" and became part of the cinematic history alongside with the other six actors cast as the Von Trapp children.
In the movie, she famously performed the song "Sixteen Going On Seventeen" during a romantic dance scene with screen boyfriend Rolfe in a thunderstorm night.
20th Century Fox, the studio that produced the film, tweeted on Sunday that "The Sound of Music lost a beloved member of the family w/ the passing of Charmian Carr. She will be forever missed."
Carr was born in Chicago in 1942, and later moved to California with her family.
After leaving the film industry, Carr started an interior design business in California. She wrote two books titled "Forever Liesl" and "Letters to Liesl," respectively. Enditem
